This will forever be one of my top visits in South Africa. We had driven past !Khwa ttu countless times, never knowing there was such a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. It was nothing like I expected—actually, it was WAY more.
The experience far exceeded my expectations, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such heartwarming love, passion, devotion, and excitement. The energy was contagious. I could feel the deep connection to this place in every moment. The tranquility of Khwa ttu is something so special that words cannot fully describe it.
Founded by Irene Staehelin in 1998, !Khwa ttu is the result of a vision by the Working Group for Indigenous Minorities in Southern Africa (WIMSA) to help the San people unlock tourism opportunities and showcase their rich culture. Since then, it has blossomed into a world-class, award-winning heritage experience. Khwa ttu’s warmth and authenticity made us feel at home the moment we stepped onto the property.
Our stay at the Fynbos Cabin was nothing short of 5-star, with absolutely no exception to quality. The charming tiny wood cabin layout was practical yet luxurious, featuring everything we needed for a relaxing getaway.
The massive glass windows framed breathtaking views of the white sands and fynbos fields, and the outdoor shower added a unique touch of privacy and nature. Each evening, we soaked in the wood-fired hot tub under the stars, feeling completely at peace.
Even dinner was next level. Our meal arrived beautifully presented in glass containers inside a woven basket, ready to heat and enjoy. The tableware was exquisite, adding a special touch to the experience. Every detail, from the décor to the natural materials and sketches, blended seamlessly with the surroundings.
